VALOR
How to make a window "smart"
Project description
The Valor project is based on a collaboration between the ICUBE laboratory and the University of Southampton, led by Thomas Heiser, a research professor at ICube. The objective was initially to use organic semiconductor materials as a photoconductive layer in optically addressable spatial light modulators (OASLMs) to protect light-sensitive devices.
SATT Conectus is investing in the technology in early 2017 to demonstrate the optical properties of the device in the manufacture of "smart windows". Intelligent windows are devices whose transparency rate is modulated either electrically, thermally, or by the intensity of incident light, or a combination of both. A number of technologies exist or are being developed to achieve this functionality (electrochromic, SPD, thermochromic, etc.). However, none of the technologies achieves the performance offered by the Valor technology in terms of autonomy, response time and spatial resolution.
Why does Conectus invest in this project?
Conectus Alsace's financial investment will make it possible to manufacture a 10x10 cm² demonstrator, which will be tested by private companies to assess their interest in the technology.
